Mali has faced a recurring cycle of political instability and military coups over the past decade. The 2012 coup, followed by a takeover of the northern regions by various armed groups, exposed deep-seated governance issues. Weak institutions, rampant corruption, and a lack of effective leadership have hindered the country's ability to provide basic services and maintain law and order. Despite efforts to establish civilian-led governments, the country has struggled to maintain stable governance, with tensions between the military and civilian authorities further complicating the situation.
